Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Fayette County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained so a response can be provided. It remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server can receive routine technical information about the visit:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when one is reported
- Pages viewed and time spent on them
- Device type and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help aggregate traffic patterns, such as which pages receive visits and where sessions end. Browser controls can block cookies, although some functions may then behave differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Directing a search request to the selected partner service
- Maintaining site availability and performance
- Finding and correcting technical faults
- Measuring which material is useful or needs revision
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
This site does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It explains how to reach Fayette County law enforcement, the criminal courts, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, WVDCR, and the West Virginia Sex Offender Registry. Public agency requests are governed by the West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., while WVSP criminal-history dissemination is controlled by W. Va. Code §15-2-24. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports about other people.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the site's search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before entering a query because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to sheriff pages, court portals, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search tools. Once a visitor follows one, the destination's privacy policy governs. Read it before providing personal information.
Advertising companies may use their own systems to observe activity across websites for targeted advertising. That processing is outside this site's control.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a submitted query
- Advertising networks placing material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable standard safeguards are used for collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, and an absolute guarantee against unauthorized access cannot be made.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A report that a minor supplied data will be reviewed so the information can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights can vary by residence and applicable law. West Virginia's consumer-protection provisions appear in the West Virginia Consumer Credit and Protection Act, W. Va. Code Chapter 46A. Subject to the law that applies, you may:
- Request deletion of eligible information
- Ask what personal data is held about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing when the law provides that right
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A new version will be posted here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review the page periodically.
